WATERBERG – On Friday 13 December 2024, the South African Police Service in Limpopo led by Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe hosted an emotional farewell event to one of the most accomplished officer, an outgoing Waterberg District Commissioner, Major General Dikeledi Rebecca Mangena who is destined for retirement on 31 December 2024. The exclusive event took place at the Amandebult Tulamela Mine Recreational Club under Northam policing area attended by remarkable SAPS management together with external stakeholders who honoured her legacy. Major General Mangena’s retirement was not just a celebration, but a moment to reflect on her uninterrupted three decades of unwavering commitment to policing, community development and leadership roles that she whole heartedly displayed throughout her career within the organisation. The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe rendered a heartfelt keynote address highlighting the significant impact that Major General Mangena undertook with her leadership responsibilities in order to exemplify what it means to be an epitome of a police officer with humility and pride. “In addition, Major-General Mangena earned the undisputed respect from colleagues and stakeholders who commenced with her during her laborious years of service. You are leaving with countless number of accolades and medals to show your longevity and exceptional journey in the police service,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe. “I stand before the audience with immense pride declaring that you are a testament to what can be achieved through hard work, discipline, sacrifice and determination as a would be former police officer young as you look as we will be heading to the conclusion of the festive season celebrations,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe. “As you embark on this new chapter of your life, remember that retirement is a new journey and beginning of new fruitful opportunities to sustain at your age and health as a senior citizen. I appreciate the opportunity that was granted by your family to serve the citizens of Limpopo province. As I conclude, may your future be bright and your life be filled with purpose and joy. Thanks for your service, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment within the South African Police Service,” added Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe. In her response, Major General Mangena appreciated everyone who stood by her side to display her qualities, especially as a woman to be afforded leadership opportunities to deliver adequate services to the Limpopo community at large. “It was a calling for me to be a police officer, my journey had obstacles which I had to overcome. I stand before you with immense and thank God and everyone who contributed to my career. SAPS will always be my life. While I depart with medals, credentials, abundance of experience, I am filled with gratitude and will forever cherish priceless moments shared in my illustrious career,” said Major General Mangena. Lastly, Major General Mangena thanked the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe together with the Chief Director for Civilian Secretariat for Police Service in the Department of Transport and Community Safety, Ms Mantji Mthimkhulu for trusting her with the responsibility of leading Waterberg District.
