WESTERN CAPE – The vigilance of police deployed to rid communities of items which threatens their safety, resulted in the confiscation of an unlicensed firearm in Knysna. On Friday, 13 December 2024 at about 06:45, a Knysna police member responded to a tipoff from the public about two men wandering around with a firearm in their possession. The member swiftly responded to the information and cornered the pair at Concordia Road, White Location where he proceeded with a search of the pair and found the firearm in the possession of one of the men. The police member confiscated the pistol and arrested a 22-year-old suspect on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm. The suspect remains in police custody. He is scheduled to appear in the Knysna Magistrates’ court on Tuesday, 17 December 2024.
Western Cape police management commended the member for his vigilance which ensured that the firearm is removed from the streets. Firearms in the hands of criminals pose a major threat to the safety of the public and efforts to eradicate the proliferation of unlicensed firearms will be sustained as part of Safer Festive Season operations.
