KIMBERLEY – Vigilant members of the JTG Highway Patrol unit in Kuruman responded to an alert regarding a stolen vehicle, today, 15 December 2024 at approximately 09:30 that was believed to have been stolen in Postmasburg earlier. Information received indicated that the Mazda 323 that was stolen in Postmasburg was towing a silver Colt bakkie. At 13:30, the JTG Highway patrol members, received information that the vehicle was spotted about 100 kilometres from Kuruman close to Komtiekie approaching Vryburg. As the members were patrolling the road, they noticed a silver Colt bakkie standing next to the road without any occupants. They proceeded on the N14 road towards Komtiekie and spotted the Mazda fitting the description. However, the vehicle was abandoned. While standing off at the scene, the members received information of two men walking with a plastic can in the direction of Komtiekie. Members of the Vryburg K9 offered assistance and safeguarded the stolen vehicle, while the JTG Highway Patrol members responded to information received from locals that there were 3 males at the bakkie, of whom two fit the description of the men walking with the can. As the members approached the Colt bakkie, they apprehended and arrested the three men on charges of theft of a motor vehicle that occurred earlier in Postmasburg. The JTG District Commissioner, Major General Johnny Besnaar commended the swift reaction of all the SAPS units involved and appreciated the assistance of the community for providing such critical information which led to the arrest of the suspects and recovery the stolen vehicle. This is a clear indication of the robust and active involvement of our communities in the fight against crime. Police will continue to sharpen and intensify efforts to combat and prevent crime during the festive season and beyond. Ends
