Media Statement POLOKWANE – The high density weekly operations Shanela (Kukula) conducted between 02 December and 08 December 2024 has led to the arrest of 925 suspects across five districts in Limpopo. The suspects were nabbed for various crimes, including murder, rape, robberies, malicious damage to property, assault GBH, contravention of the immigration Act, and possession of unlicensed firearms among others. The operations were activated through stop and search, roadblocks, tracing of wanted suspects, and high-visibility patrols. The multi-disciplinary operations involved SAPS units, SANDF, traffic police, Youth Crime Prevention Desk, Private Security, the Department of Home Affairs, Department of Health personnel and Department of Human Settlement. The suspects were arrested for following serious offences, 52 for illegal dealing in liquor, 03 for possession of drugs, 03 for illegal possession of unlicensed firearms, 58 for assault GBH, and 11 for rape. Police confiscated 03 firearms, 17 ammunitions, 661.9 liters of alcoholic beverages, 687 counterfeit goods, 4.56 kg of dagga, and cash to the value of R1094.55. Some of the suspects have already started appearing before their respective magistrate’s courts. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has praised the operational members for working relentlessly to ensure that crime is stabilized in the province.
