Media Statement POLOKWANE – The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has commended the quick actions of the multidisciplinary task team for the prompt arrest of two carjacking suspects and the successful recovery of the stolen vehicle and the victim’s firearm, along with ammunition, following an incident that occurred on Thursday evening, 05 December 2024, in the Burgersfort policing precinct. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, a male traveling with a female passenger, stopped his vehicle at Ga-Mahlakweni village. As the couple exited the car, a white Polo TSI with five occupants approached and threatened the driver at gunpoint. The woman attempted to flee but was caught by the suspects. Three of the suspects entered the victim’s vehicle, with one taking the vehicle, while the other two drove off in their original vehicle. The victims were then taken to Ga-Masemola village, where the suspects stole their belongings, including the male victim’s firearm, and transferred a significant sum of cash into one of the suspects’ bank account. The suspects then fled the scene using both vehicles. The police were alerted by the tracking company, and a tip-off was provided to the Sekhukhune task team. With the assistance of security companies, the team pursued the suspects, eventually engaging in a gunfight in the Marble Hall policing area. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained during the exchange of fire. Two suspects, who were in the hijacked vehicle, were arrested while the others fled on foot. The other suspects who were driving their vehicle also managed to escape. The hijacked vehicle was recovered with bullet holes, and the stolen firearm, along with ammunition, were also confiscated. The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, emphasized that this operation sends a strong message that Limpopo Festive Season’s operations are in full swing and our communities will not be sanctuaries for criminals.
