Media Statement UPINGTON – The South African Police Service in the ZF Mgcawu District has welcomed the hefty sentence that was handed down to a child molester in Kakamas Regional Court on Tuesday, 03 December 2024. A 40-year-old man is facing a long time in jail for the rape and sexual assault of two minors in Kakamas. The police received a report from a concerned mother in March 2023, after one of her boys told her about an incident where the accused, sexually assaulted him and his brother, aged 11 and nine, respectively. The incident happened four months prior when she was attending a funeral in another town and the boys were left in the care of a family member. A case docket was registered and was assigned to Sergeant Jurie Mokgalagadi of Kakamas Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit. The thorough investigation and sufficient evidence collection brought the desired prosecution. The accused was found guilty on two counts of Sexual Assault and was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment. The meticulous investigation by the member and team work with Prosecutor Maneti was applauded for ensuring justice for the boys and many other potential victims. Another GBVF perpetrator was removed from the community. Ends
