Deputy Minister Nel to launch the Sexual Offences Court and host the GBVF Imbizo in Mthatha
05 December 2024
As part of the Departmental commemorative activities for the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign, the Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr Andries Nel, will officially launch the Sexual Offences Court and host the imbizo at Mthatha in the Eastern Cape province on 09 December 2024.
Sexual Offences Courts provide specialized victim-centric support services to victims of sexual offences, there is also a two-way closed-circuit television system in the Sexual Offences Courts, which inter alia, allows a witness to identify an accused from the private testifying room and thus reduce the secondary victimisation.
The launch of Mthatha Sexual Offences Court will be followed by an imbizo hosted by the Deputy Minister at the OR Tambo Hall, the engagements of the imbizo will focus on Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) related issues.
The launch of Mthatha Sexual Offences Court and the GBVF Imbizo underscore the Department’s unwavering commitment to address violence against women and children.
