Media Statement GAUTENG – In a major breakthrough, a well-coordinated undercover operation by the Johannesburg based Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) and the Johannesburg Crime Intelligence (CI), led to the recovery of a significant consignment of stolen Michel Herbelin watches. In September 2024, a consignment of Michel Herbelin watches were stolen en-route to Luxco Importers (Pty) Ltd. Upon being approached, the Johannesburg Crime Intelligence Unit swiftly acted on the information. Intelligence gathered indicated that the suspects were attempting to sell the watches to jewellery shops using Instagram. An application for a search and seizure warrant in terms of the Criminal Procedure Act was made. The target was interacted with through Instagram and a meeting arranged for the transaction. Upon confirming possession of the stolen watches, the suspect was apprehended. Forty wrist watches valued at a substantial amount were confiscated from the accused, Kagiso Chauke (21). He was consequently charged for possession of suspected stolen property. Chauke made his first court appearance in the Krugersdorp Magistrates Court on Thursday, 05 December 2024. The case was postponed to 11 December 2024 for a bail application. Ends
