Media Statement MANKWENG – The Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Samuel Manala, alongside the District Commissioner of Capricorn, Major General Lesiba Mashilo, led a post-imbizo accountability session on Sunday, 24 November 2024, at the Mothiba Tribal Authority offices in the Mankweng policing area. The session was attended by Kgoshi Mothiba accompanied by the royal council from the Mothiba Tribal Authority, the Office of the Civilian Secretariat for the Police Service, Provincial Heads, the Mankweng Station Commander, the Provincial Chairperson of the Community Policing Forum Board, community policing structures, SAPS members from various components and stations, community members, and other stakeholders. The Provincial Head for Proactive Policing, Brigadier Isaac Mhlongo, outlined the session’s purpose as providing feedback on the action plan, operational interventions, and social crime prevention initiatives established in partnership with stakeholders. This follow-up engagement comes in response to the Ministerial Imbizo held on 20 May 2023 in Ga-Mothiba Village, led by Deputy Minister of Police Honourable Cassel Mathale, aimed at addressing issues such as violent crime, substance abuse, firearm proliferation, and the prevalence of liquor outlets in the community. The post-engagement session aimed to empower local Community Policing Forums, neighborhood watches, and community patrollers by rendering a transparent service to the community. It also served as a platform for the national and provincial government to update the community on progress made regarding concerns and complaints raised about crime in the area. Brigadier Mhlongo presented a status report addressing the nineteen complaints received and ongoing commitments from the province. Director Dolo from the Civilian Secretariat for the Police Service acknowledged the absence of comments or complaints from attendees. Dr. Maesela, also from the Civilian Secretariat, encouraged community members to voice their concerns about crime and service delivery, emphasizing that such feedback is vital for improving police-community relations. She highlighted that the office of Inspectorate led by Brigadier Moloi is always ready and dedicated to addressing community complaints. Dr. Maesela urged community members to participate in crime awareness campaigns and police meetings to raise their concerns constructively. In his closing remarks, Major General Samuel Manala expressed appreciation for the community’s engagement and reiterated the importance of continued communication with investigative officers regarding ongoing cases. He encouraged residents to report any unresolved issues to their local police, assuring them that escalations to district and provincial offices would be taken seriously. Major General Manala reaffirmed the SAPS’s commitment to ensuring that community members receive the highest quality of service. Ends
