Media Statement PARKTOWN – The efforts of the police to deal with the illicit trade of counterfeit goods and contraband has resulted in the seizure of goods estimated to the value of approximately R8 600 000-00. The seizures result from two separate operations that were conducted in Langlaagte and Honeydew policing areas by the SAPS Gauteng Counterfeit Unit, Brand Protectors and Community Policing Forum. With the one conducted in Honeydew on 23 November 2024, the team seized illicit cellphone accessories, illicit clothes and shoes, LED blue lights to the value of about R3 300 000-00, and issued four fines. The trade of counterfeit goods and contraband is unlawful and has a detrimental impact on the economic growth of the country. Hence, the law enforcement agencies in Gauteng continue to destabilize the market of illicit trade of counterfeit goods.
