Media Statement UGIE – Continued efforts by Police to reduce drugs in the society yielded good results as five suspects aged between 27 and 54 were arrested for dealing and possession of drugs in Ugie. Members attached to Ugie SAPS, Barkley East Mounted Unit, Khowa and Aliwal North K9 unit formed part of an intelligence driven operation where activities of high visibility patrols, vehicle check points, firearms and drug searches and seizures, stop and search, inspection on non-compliance in Spaza shops, visit to taxi ranks were executed. During the operation, four suspects were arrested for possession of dagga and dealing in drugs. Police followed an information and arrested one of these suspects while in his home. Upon searching the house, they found nine (9) mandrax tablets in different sizes. The fifth suspect was arrested for assault These suspects are due to appear at Ugie Magistrate Court on Monday, 25/11
The Joe Gqabi District Commissioner Major General Lindelwa Vellem commended the members for eradicating drugs in the streets of Ugie and is encouraging the public to report any criminal activities to the police or call Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
