Media Statement EAST LONDON – As we are approaching the 16 days of activism on crimes again women and children, the Mdantsane Regional Court has sentenced Nkululeko Bushula (42) to life imprisonment for raping a minor (10) in April 2020. The accused is known to the family, and he called the victim (girl) while they were outside in their home and raped her in bushes at NU3, Mdantsane outside East London. It is alleged that Nkululeko saw the victim on the street out of her home and promised her a place to sleep. The victim went with him, but he took her to the bushes where he raped her. The case was opened at Mdantsane SAPS, and on investigation, Police arrested him on 04 May 2020. He first appeared at Mdantsane Magistrate Court on 07 May 2020, and the investigating officer successfully opposed the bail, and he was remanded in custody. He appeared several times at the Magistrate Court, and his case was later transferred to the Regional Court in February 2021 for trial. The accused was in custody, and on Monday, 19 November 2024, Nkululeko Bushula was found guilty of rape and sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Buffalo City District Commissioner Major General Christopher Wright commended the investigating officer Warrant Officer Tenjiswa Landzela, who led the investigation and ensured that justice is served and the perpetrator is behind bars.
