Media Statement NELSPRUIT – A 36-year-old man has appeared Mashishing Magistrate’s Court on 14 November 2024, in relation to charges of rape involving a female victim (48) in Lydenburg on 11 November 2024. According to reports, the victim was allegedly raped on that fateful night at her place of residence around 20:00. The suspect forcefully entered her home, held her hostage, and committed the heinous act before fleeing the scene. The incident was reported to the Police and the case was assigned to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit. The Police traced and arrested the suspect on 13 November 2024. During the suspect’s court appearance, the case was postponed to 21 November 2024, for a formal bail application. In the meantime, the suspect remains in custody. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the efforts of the SAPS members involved in the arrest of the rape suspect. The General expressed his gratitude for their dedication and commitment to seeking justice for the victim. “Though rape cases are reported, which is very concerning, however we are comforted by the fact that we all do our best to arrest the alleged perpetrators. We are hopeful that justice will be served for the victim,” said General Mkhwanazi. Ends
