Media Statement EKURHULENI DISTRICT – Efforts to curb the presence of various crimes in communities continue to yield success following joint operations executed by Ekurhuleni Saps members, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, Gauteng Traffic, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, Community Policing Forum, Home Affairs and other law enforcement agencies in Ekurhuleni Policing precincts from Wednesday 13 November 2024 in the evening until Thursday 14 November 2024. Ekurhuleni Deputy District Commissioner, Brigadier Lebohang Machakela, led the Operations in Tokoza area, Ekurhuleni today, where 31 suspects were arrested for contravention of the Immigration Act, one suspect arrested for dealing in dagga, one for dealing in drugs, five for possession of drugs – dagga, Nyaope, Crystal meth, Mandrax were seized, three illegal shebeens shut down, and more liquor confiscated, 31 Spaza shops visited for compliance, 2 J534 Tickets issued for second hand goods non-compliance. Members of Ekurhuleni West Social Crime Prevention also engaged with Community at Letsogo Shopping complex in a bid to heighten their level of safety awareness ahead of the festive period. Pamphlets with safety tips focussing on crime most prevalent at malls were also distributed among members of the community. The Deputy District Commissioner Brigadier Machakela, joined by Ekurhuleni Stations Brigadiers, Community Policing Forums and other stakeholders conducted foot patrols at the shopping complex as part of heightened police visibility. Police members also took the opportunity to engage with the Shopping Complex management in order to listen and address some of their concerns regarding crimes at their shopping complex. Ekurhuleni Deputy District Commissioner, Brigadier Lebohang Machakela, applauded the efforts and team’s spirit displayed by the stakeholders to ensure that crime curbed in Ekurhuleni District. Ends
