BOTSHABELO – Two men were arrested by Botshabelo Task Team and the Selosesha Tactical Response Team for the armed robbery of a grocery store delivery vehicle in Botshabelo. On 5 November 2024 at about 13:00 an armed robbery was reported where a White Toyota Hilux bakkie full of stock was stolen at gunpoint by four unknown males. Intelligence-led information was received that groceries were delivered at a house in R section. Information was operationalised and the hijacked vehicle, a Toyota Hilux was recovered after it was found abandoned near a school in Section M. The manhunt continued and a white Polo, which was allegedly used in the hijacking, was spotted in Section T, members quickly proceeded to the area and the vehicle was spotted. A high-speed vehicle chase ensued and during the chase, the driver of the white polo collided with a police bakkie before he was stopped at the Re a hola complex and was arrested. A preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was allegedly used in the commission of other robberies in Botshabelo. A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened for further investigation and three more suspects are still at large. While members were busy with detention, they received intelligence-led information about the whereabouts of one more suspect who was arrested at a house in R section, where members also found groceries and a toy gun believed to have been used during the robbery.
Both suspects, aged 51 and 34, were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and armed robbery; two more suspects will be arrested swiftly. They will appear in the Botshabelo Magistrate Court soon.
