Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Continued efforts by the Western Cape police to get rid of unlicensed and prohibited firearms in our streets have once again paid off as members attached to Public Order Police arrested a 30-year-old man for the possession of a prohibited firearm. On Monday, 04 November 2024, at around 21:50 the members were busy with crime prevention patrols on the corner of Felysis Road and Nondlwana Street, when they approached a group of five males and two females and one of them tried to run away upon noticing that the police members were coming to their direction. The members gave chase and caught him in another street and searched him. During the search the members found a black 9mm pistol with its serial number filled off on the right side of his hip. The 30-year-old man was subsequently arrested for the possession of a prohibited firearm. The suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charge, once charged. Ends
