Media Statement LIMPOPO – Mokopane Regional court has on Tuesday, 29 October 2024, sentenced a 45-year-old father to 20 years imprisonment for raping his 14-year-old daughter at Maribashoek, Mokopane policing area, Waterberg District. According to the evidence presented during the trial, on Sunday, 28 May 2023, the victim was at home sleeping in her parent’s bedroom when her father returned and sexually assaulted her before raping her. The accused warned the victim not to tell anyone. The victim’s mother was in the kitchen preparing coffee for them. On the same day, the victim overheard the father requesting the younger sister to touch his private parts, and the victim alerted her mother about the rape as she was concerned that the accused (father) would rape the younger sister too as he had been sexually abusing her since she was 12 year old. The victim’s mother reported the incident to the police. The docket was transferred to Mokopane Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS), Investigating Officer Sergeant Ramolokoana Leshaba was assigned with investigation. The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, 31 May 2023, and bail was opposed until he was found guilty and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for rape. The accused was further declared unfit to possess a firearm and will be registered in the National Register of sexual offenders. The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the sentence and commended meticulous efforts by the Investigating Officer and the role players who took part to bring the offenders to justice.
