POLOKWANE – Polokwane Regional court have meted out a life term imprisonment to a 57-year-old male accused in connection with the rape of his 13-year-old stepdaughter at Magwai village under Matlala policing area. The court trial heard that on 20 July 2016, the victim departed from her residence at Thokgwaneng, Ga-Chuene village under Lebowakgomo policing area, during school holidays intending to visit her mother who was residing with the accused at Ga Magwai village. Upon her arrival, she found the accused who informed her that her mother was not at home. Suddenly the 57-year-old accused grabbed and forcefully undressed the victim, his stepdaughter and raped her. Following the ordeal, the victim returned home and managed to inform her aunt who immediately reported the incident to the local police at Lebowakgomo. A rape case was opened and the accused was apprehended on 23 July 2016 at Magwai village. The matter was later transferred to Seshego Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit and assigned to Sergeant Maretha Mokhudu for further investigations. The accused was later granted bail but failed to appear in court on numerous occasions and was re-arrested during October 2022. He was then remanded in custody until when he was handed a life term imprisonment sentence by Polokwane Regional court on Tuesday 29 October 2024. The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has appreciated the court verdict for the incarceration of a 57-year-old male accused who was supposed to play a role of a father figure to a minor victim.
