Media Statement KWAZULU-NATAL – On Friday 25 October 2024, Madadeni Magistrate’s Court sentenced Sandile Philemon Luthuli (41) for dealing in drugs. On 25 October 2024, the Hawks members from Newcastle Serious Organised Crime Investigation received information regarding an individual in possession of an unlicensed firearm and dealing in drugs at Blaaubosch in Osizweni. The police conducted an intelligence-driven operation and searched the address, finding a variety of drugs in Luthuli’s possession. Luthuli was immediately arrested and charged with dealing in drugs. The seized drugs, with an estimated street value of R26 000-00 were confiscated for further investigation. The accused appeared in court on several occasions until on 25 October 2024, when he was found guilty on two (2) counts of dealing in drugs. The accused was sentenced to two (2) years direct imprisonment and was declared unfit to possess a firearm. The KwaZulu-Natal’s Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Lesetja Senona welcomed the sentence and commended the members for the good work. Ends
