Media Statement CAPE TOWN – Members of the Anti-Gang Unit deployed in the Bishop Lavis policing precinct to quell the ongoing shootings in the area arrested an adult male for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition on Saturday night, 26 October 2024. The members were busy with crime prevention patrols in the area when they responded to a complaint of a shooting and upon arrival on the scene several shot were fired in their direction. The members, with the help of the community who gave them a description of the suspect, manage to apprehend the suspect in Hilda Crescent and confiscated a .38 Special revolver and ammunition. The adult male face charges of attempted murder and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He is scheduled to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ court once he has been charged. In an unrelated matter members of Claremont police arrested an adult male on Friday night for the illegal possession of ammunition. The members received information from a local security company of a person that is running along the railway line with ammunition in his possession. The members followed up the information and apprehended the suspect in Long Road, Mowbray and searched him. They found ten shotgun and three 9mm rounds of ammunition in his possession. He will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ court on Monday, 28 October 2024. Ends
