Media Statement CAPE TOWN – The fight against the unlawful possession of firearms continue in the Western Cape as police members arrest several suspects during crime prevention operations. On Friday evening, 25 October 2024, members of Mitchell’s Plain police were busy with crime prevention operations in Beacon Valley, Mitchell’s Plain when they arrested a 41-year-old male for possession of a 7.65 pistol with ammunition. He faces charges for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. In an unrelated matter, the members of the Maitland Flying Squad pulled over a suspicious looking vehicle in Goodwood after they received information about occupants of a Ford Fiesta who was involved in street robberies in the area. Upon searching the vehicle they found a 9mm pistol with ammunition inside the vehicle. Three suspects, aged between 24 and 40, were arrested for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. Furthermore, Delft Crime Prevention Unit arrested an adult male when they followed up on information about a suspect who is walking in Heuningbos Street, Roosendal, with a firearm in his possession. They accosted the suspect fitting the description, searched him and found a 9mm pistol with ammunition in his possession. He was arrested for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. In Tafelsig, Mitchell’s Plain police members arrested a 24-year-old male when he was searched in Karoopoort Street and found in possession of a 9mm pistol with seven rounds of ammunition in his possession. The suspects will make their respective court appearances in the Mitchell’s Plain, Goodwood and Bellville Magistrates’ courts on Monday, 28 October 2024. Ends
