Media Statement POTCHEFSTROOM – In a glamorous ceremony to salute and acknowledge South African Police Service (SAPS) in North West, numerous police officers and employees were awarded as winners in more than 40 categories on Friday, 18 October 2024 during the 12th annual Service Excellence Awards event held at the Elgro Hotel, Potchefstroom. Furthermore, 20 retirees were also celebrated for their faithful service. Brig Anre Wagner received the award for Senior Administration Manager of the Year. He is the Section Head at Legal Services and responsible for legal support to operational functions in the North West Province. His primary responsibility is the rendering of legal support in respect of the prevention, combatting and investigation of crimes. He is also a work class Archer, who was selected as Protea archer for the World Field Archery Championships (WFAC 2024) and currently holds seven South African records and three African records in Archery. The Senior Operational Manager for Policing, was scooped by Brig Ntoagae, the current acting District Commissioner at Bojanala sub-district 2 (Rustenburg). She had an overall decrease in the total of reported cases in the district, indicating effective crime management and implementation of strategies. She made a significant impact in stabilizing serious and violent crimes. Boitekong Station was awarded the Station of the year. The station personnel worked together to achieve the common goal of fighting property related crimes and crimes dependent on police action. The station got a performance rating of 5 – the highest rating. New Strategies were implemented to successfully complete tasks. Sergeant EM Morakabi was the Woman of the Year. She excelled in her day-to-day duties, initiated and implemented projects and conducted evaluations on Community Policing. She went beyond the call of duty by conducting 33 social crime prevention awareness activities in Jouberton in conjunction with other stakeholders. Capt Sam Tselanyane received the award for Man of the Year. He managed the Communication Nodal Point, excellently performed media Standby duties and for the review period released 75 media statements, conducted 48 radio interviews and communicates in several languages. He actively participated in and supported public education and exhibitions. He is elected as the Deputy Chairperson of the Provincial Employment Equity Forum, Public Relations Officer for Men for Change and POLMUSCA. Reservist Constable SR Makabe from Mahikeng was awarded as Reservist of the year. He worked 489 hours per year, which is three times more than what is expected of him without payment. He arrested 41 suspects, recovered three stolen firearms and 11 cellular phones, cash and other stolen property. Sgt KG Mosiatlhaga was the Sport Man of the Year. He participated and did extremely well in four different races that included the Klerksdorp 50 kilometres Ultra Marathon, the Comrades Marathon and Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, where he received silver medals. In February 2024, he participated in the Ottosdal Night Race wherein he got a gold medal. The person with disability of the year was awarded to Sgt Mammie Tselanyane. She is disabled due to Systematic Lupus Erythematosus, but this does not stop her from performing her duties in Potchefstroom Community Service Centre (CSC). She opened case dockets, certified documents and did other administrative duties. She provided professional community policing support at the Frontline Desk and Radio Control Room. Sgt Setlolamathe was announced as the winner for the Community Police Forum (CPF) of the Year. He organised and coordinated events, public presentations and exhibitions. Established a directory of essential services for all role players and conducted awareness activities. He ensured that the CPF, sub-forums, youth Crime Desk and Community in Blue Patrollers are functional and active. The Provincial Commissioner also awarded special awards to the below mentioned employees: · Captain MN Bodiba at Mothotlung station for leadership and excellence in the operational environment · Colonel MF Mfuloane at Booitekong station for leadership and excellence in the operational environment · Colonel PC van Loggenberg for leadership and excellence in legal support · Messenger AI Assegaai from Provincial Auxilliary Service for commitment and dedication in service rendering. · Cleaner BE Monamodi for commitment and dedication in cleaning excellence
The MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Mr W Morweng, who also attended the event, congratulated members on their achievements and acknowledged them for their services. He said: “Today we honour all of you whose contributions are often overlooked, yet they silently and astutely put the people of the Republic first.”
