Media Statement NELSPRUIT – The police in Masoyi are investigating a tragic incident that occurred over the weekend, resulting in the death of a young boy (16) and injuries sustained by another boy (12). The incident began on Saturday, 12 October 2024, when the two boys went on a trip, possibly for hiking or hunting, accompanied by dogs. On Sunday, 13 October 2024, their families became concerned when the boys did not return, only the dogs came back, prompting them to report the matter to the Police. Upon receiving the report, the Police immediately mobilized resources and a search operation was launched to locate the missing boys. The Search and Rescue team from the SAPS, along with CPF members and volunteers, joined forces to assist in the search efforts. Tragically, one boy (16) was found with serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other boy (12) sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. An inquest case is currently being investigated, and the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has praised the swift response and collaboration displayed by the SAPS members, CPF, and volunteers involved in the search operation. The General also expressed gratitude to the individuals who volunteered their resources to aid in the search efforts.
