Media Statement POLOKWANE – An intelligence driven joint operation between Naboomspruit Crime Prevention Unit and Detectives led to the rapid arrest of four suspects involved in a business robbery at a Municipality Lapa construction site in Extension 8, Mookgophong, during the early hours of Sunday, 13 October 2024. The incident unfolded when the security officer on duty reported being accosted by suspects armed with firearms and sharp objects, who forced him to gather batteries and other valuables. While one suspect called for a vehicle to load the stolen goods, another confined the officer in an office. Fortunately, the officer was unharmed. The suspects were apprehended at different locations within the vicinity shortly after the robbery, thanks to a tip-off, which led to the recovery of stolen items valued at approximately R20 000. A panga believed to have been used in the crime was also confiscated. Investigations are ongoing to recover additional stolen properties and the firearms used in the robbery. The suspects, aged between 26 and 37, include an illegal foreign national. They will face charges of business robbery and possession of suspected stolen property when appearing at the Mookgophong Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 October 2024. The foreign national will also face charges for violating the Immigration Act.
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed these arrests, stressing that this decisive action sends a clear message that crime can be addressed effectively at all levels.
