Operation Vala Umgodi puts more boots on the ground for a Safer Festive Season

FREE STATE – During the past planned operational week, teams deployed for eradication of illicit mining; Operation Vala Umgodi executed various operational concepts to increase police visibility. A roadblock was manned on N1 National Road near Ventersberg by role-players in Road Freight and Logistics Task Team; Department of Employment and Labour, Department of Home Affairs, Provincial Traffic Department and the South African Police Service to conduct inspections on the spot, address concerns raised by ADTF ASA & RFA and to ensure compliance according to NBCRFLI.

A bus headed towards Western Cape was stopped and searched. Inside the mega coach were a total number of 129 passengers; 107 adults and 22 children when the trip list only contained 53 names. The task team conducted the inspection of documents and ultimately 30 persons were arrested for being in the Republic of South Africa without proper travel documents.
