Media Statement MPUMALANGA – A 32-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Ogies Magistrates Court on Friday, 11 October 2024, after he was arrested by the Hawks Middelburg based Serious Organised Crime Investigation on Wednesday, 9 October 2024, facing charges of damaging essential infrastructure. It is alleged that on 18 July 2022, the suspect was found stealing copper cable from the conveyer belt at Kendal power station. The suspect was arrested after he failed to give an explanation about the copper cable he was found with. He was then arrested and detained at Ogies Police Station. He was later released on bail. The suspect appeared in court on several occasions until on 30 January 2023, when the case was removed from the court roll pending further investigation. The case was transferred to the Hawks Middelburg based Serious Organised Crime Investigation for further investigation. The determined investigating officer pursued the matter and all outstanding investigation was finalized and the matter was send to Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), and a J175 summons was issued against the accused to appear in court. The accused could not be traced at his residential address. The investigating officer applied for a warrant of arrest.
On 09 October 2024, accused person was traced and the warrant of arrest was executed. He was detained at Ogies SAPS pending his court appearance at Ogies Periodical Court on Friday 11 October 2024.
