WESTERN CAPE – Concerted efforts to rid communities of unlicensed firearms which threatens the safety of the public resulted in the confiscation of three firearms in Worcester, Elsies River and Klapmuts. On Friday, 04 October 2024, at around 00:45, members were busy with stop and search duties in Riverview, Worcester, when they saw a person walking towards a vehicle, and he suddenly changed his direction. The members then approached him, and he attempted to flee, but the members managed to apprehend him. They found a 9mm P.A.K and 9mm rounds of ammunition and a long knife that fell from his waist. An adult male was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest and assault common. In an unrelated matter, on 04 October 2024 at about 14:50, Elsies River Crime Prevention Unit members arrested a 25-year-old suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The members were busy with crime prevention duties when information was given of a silver Quantum taxi driving from a petrol station, where the suspect pointed someone with a firearm. The members saw the vehicle and the suspect fitting the description driving in Viking Way. After pulling over the vehicle in Viking Way, the members searched the vehicle and found a 9mm Luger firearm, and four rounds and placed the suspect under arrest. The suspect was unable to provide a valid license for his possession thereof. On Friday 04 October 2024 just after 17:00 a known suspect involved in robberies in Klapmuts was arrested at the sports field and found to be in possession of an illegal 9mm chrome coloured pistol of which the serial number was removed. The 24-year-old suspect was detained at Klapmuts SAPS. All confiscated firearms will be sent to ballistics for analysis. Once charged, these suspects are to appear at the Worcester, Goodwood, and Paarl Magistrates Court on their respective charges. Ends
