FREE STATE – The relentless integrated actions by Illicit Mining team in Free State bear good results once again. Proactive operators, Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) and Private Security Company personnel arrested a 44-year-old male on Kopanong Mine premises in possession of nineteen (19) Gold bearing amalgam. Further investigation led the team to the hostel unit where another suspect was arrested in possession of contraband goods; rice, soya mince, dried beans, instant porridge, cigarettes and buff tape rolls used to attach the smuggled items on the body underneath the clothing. Large amounts of cash believed to be proceeds of crime was also found inside the hostel unit where the second 44-year-old contract worker resides. Fifty-two (52) bottles of BronCleer Cough Syrup were also seized. Cases of Possession of Gold bearing amalgam and Possession of presumably stolen property/ Contravention of Medicines and Controlled Substances Act with an added charge of Conspiracy to commit crime were opened at Vierfontein Police Station. The two (2) suspects, both aged 44 were arrested and detained in police custody. The operational actions carried out by South African Police Service and South African National Defence Force members in Beatrix Mine area led to the arrest of a 29-year-old male. The suspect was arrested in possession of gold bearing material. A case of possession of suspected gold bearing material, trespassing on mine area and Contravention of the Immigration Act was then opened at Theunnisen Police Station. All suspects will appear before different Courts soon. Ends
