POLOKWANE – On Wednesday, 2 October 2024, the South African Police Service (SAPS) Capricorn District proudly hosted its esteemed Excellence Awards ceremony at the Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane. This momentous occasion celebrated the exemplary contributions of dedicated members in fostering safer communities across the Province of Limpopo. The event attracted a distinguished audience, including the Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo, Kgoshi Kgabo Moloto III, the Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General MT Hadebe, Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Samuel Manala, Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Support Services Major General Christine Morakaladi, and the District Commissioner of Capricorn District Major General Lesiba Mashilo, among other notable figures. In her address, the Capricorn District Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo delivered a profound keynote speech that deeply resonated with all attendees. She underscored the pivotal role of the police in upholding peace and security within the community, emphasizing the necessity of collaboration between the SAPS and community policing forums to effectively address safety challenges. Her insights on the significance of partnerships and proactive engagement sparked a renewed dedication among those present to collectively strive towards establishing a safer environment for all residents. Distinguished stakeholders, including Mr. Pat Magabe from the South African Police Union (SAPU), Mr. Lephalala from the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU), and CPF District Chairperson Mr. Makwela, conveyed heartfelt messages of solidarity, highlighting the crucial value of teamwork and unwavering allegiance. Among the speakers, Ms. Tebogo Shai from Assupol, a prominent sponsor of the event, commended the award recipients and emphasized the vital role of partnerships in community development. The motivational speaker, Advocate Nthabiseng Ngoepe, inspired attendees with her empowering discourse on the relentless pursuit of excellence. Awards were bestowed in various categories, lauding exceptional accomplishments within the SAPS. Prominent winners included: – Detective and Forensic Service Member of the Year: Sgt Magadani, Lebowakgomo SAPS – Detective and Forensic Team of the Year: Westenburg, Mankweng Trio Task Team – FCS Investigation of the Year: Sgt KJ Shilajwe – Station of the Year: Mankweng, Brigadier KJ Mathabatha – Woman of the Year: Sgt MM Maphosa, Sebayeng SAPS – Sportsman of the Year: PAC SK Lesetja, Lebowakgomo SAPS – Person with Disability of the Year: AC DM Moremi, Westenburg SAPS Moreover, the District Commissioner Special Awards were bestowed upon Sgt TJ Makobela and Sgt MC Mashalane.
