Media Statement DURBAN – Three hundred and twenty nine (329) firearms, twenty of which were homemade as well as 23 rifles and 5 046 rounds of ammunition were recovered during September operations which resulted in the arrest of 10 627 suspects for various categories of crime in KwaZulu-Natal. The search for wanted suspects resulted in the arrest of 168 suspects for murder and another 214 suspects were nabbed for cases of attempted murder, whilst 47 suspects were arrested for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. One hundred and fifty five suspects were arrested for robberies including robbery with aggravating circumstances, business and house robberies, car and truck jacking. Seventy seven (77) suspects were arrested for intimidation. Police’s relentless efforts to end Gender-Based Violence continues to bring perpetrators to justice. Two hundred and three (203) suspects were arrested in connection with cases of rape, 7 suspects were nabbed for attempted rape and 243 suspects were arrested as a result of transgression of the Domestic Violence Act. The abuse of alcohol continues to be a major contributing factor in the cases of assault. One thousand four hundred and eighty (1 480) suspects were arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. On the same breath, 528 people were arrested for illegal dealing in liquor. Sixty (60) people were arrested for drinking in a public space and 75 more people were arrested for being drunk in a public space. Twenty-nine (29) suspects were arrested for the theft of stock. One hundred and four (104) cattle, 15 goats and 6 horses were recovered during the operations in the month of September 2024. Ends
