NELSPRUIT – The SAPS is investigating the shooting incident that occurred in Schoemansdal in the evening of Tuesday 01 October 2024, where a man, that can for now be identified as a political activist, was shot multiple times. According to the information received, the victim arrived at his residence with a companion around 21h20 and stopped in front of the gate to open it. At that moment, an armed man wearing a black jersey and a white hat approached him and fired several shots, resulting in the victim sustaining injuries. Despite attempting to seek refuge in his house, the suspect continued firing at the victim as he tried to flee towards safety. The suspect fled the scene and is currently at large. The victim was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and is fighting for his life though receiving the necessary care. The Police urge members of the public with any information that may assist in the arrest of the suspect involved in this heinous crime to call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or send information via the MYSAPSAPP. All received information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, and callers may opt to remain anonymous. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has strongly condemned the incident and reassured members of the public that Police will work around the clock to ensure that the suspect is swiftly brought to book.
