The Thohoyandou High Court handed down this sentence on Thursday, September 26, 2024, also convicting him to three years’ for kidnapping and 10 months for assault common. In January 2022, it was discovered that the victim had become pregnant but suffered a miscarriage, leading her to report the incident. The Investigating Officer, Detective Warrant Officer Samuel Thovhakale of Makhado Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit successfully arrested the accused, who was on the run. The accused was denied bail and remained in custody until sentencing. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Samuel Manala, commended the investigating officer for the sterling work stating, “This sentence reflects the severity of gender-based violence and the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals, particularly children, from abuse and exploitation.” Ends
