The Democratic Alliance (DA) has accused ActionSA of sinking a functional government, and in doing so traded stability for chaos after Cilliers Brink was ousted as Tshwane mayor.
This comes as ActionSA which withdrew from the DA-led multi-party coalition in Tshwane supported the motion against Brink which was tabled by the African National Congress (ANC).
DA WEIGHS IN ON CILLIERS BRINK’S OUSTING AS TSHWANE MAYOR
DA Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga said ActionSA has disrupted the progress and unity that the Tshwane multiparty coalition government worked tirelessly to build.
He said the party’s backstabbing played right into the hands of the ANC’s power hunger, emphasising that the ANC has no interest in good governance in Tshwane but wants to pillage and steal from a stabilised government.
“This will destabilise Tshwane, and ActionSA is duly complicit in this power grab. The doomsday coalition has taken over Tshwane and will go the same route as Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni.
“A future of urban decay and service delivery failure lies ahead for the good citizens of Tshwane. Once parties get a scent of what they perceive to be power, they evidently sacrifice constitutional principles for the fulfillment of misplaced personal vendettas,” Msimanga, a former Tshwane mayor, said.
ActionSA leader in Gauteng Funzi Ngobeni said they felt they have a duty to act in the interests of those who deserve better, all the residents of Tshwane.
Ngobeni said ActionSA found itself in a coalition at the mercy of a mayor from a party who has no discernible constituency in the townships of the city he governed.
“It is for this reason, and many others, that ActionSA Tshwane councillors joined forces with the ANC and other parties in voting out DA executive mayor Cilliers Brink, and within 14 days, we will join forces again in voting in the new executive mayor,” Ngobeni said.
ANC WELCOMES THE LATEST DEVELOPMENTS IN THE CAPITAL CITY
The Blue Party also tried to negotiate with the ANC in order to save Brink, however, the ANC in Gauteng confirmed that it would also be supporting the motion.
Unsurprisingly, the ANC in Gauteng has welcomed Brink’s removal and said it marks the beginning of the re-strengthening of the City of Tshwane and Gauteng broadly.
“It is also an early gift to the people of Tshwane , who deserve a leadership that is intentional about bestowing the greatest gift to them – a more human face,” ANC Gauteng secretary Thembinkosi Nciza said.
Nciza said the DA-led multiparty government in the capital city is a perfect reflection of how the DA leads across the province.
“The maladministration and poor governance that was experienced in Tshwane was being experienced in the City of Ekurhuleni and the City of Johannesburg, where instability and racialism was the order of the day. This is how the DA governs – not the false image it has presented to the world,” Nciza added.
