Media Statement NAMAHADI – The Phuthaditjhaba Family, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit together with the National Prosecuting Authority handed over a life sentence on count of rape to Jonas Pheello Mokoena (30) on 23 September 2024 on a matter which occurred on 08 January 2021. He was convicted in Phuthaditjhaba Regional Court by magistrate Msimanga and prosecutor Chabangu and investigated by Detective Warrant Officer Moloi. On 08 January 2021, the 17-year-old girl was on her way from church when she met the accused person, who instructed her to go with him to his place, where they met the old lady who asked him what was happening with her. He answered by saying he was going to marry her. He raped her for almost three days. She was locked in the house on these few days. On the third day he heard that the police were looking for her, he opened the door for her and she left. She managed to get out of the house and run away. The accused was arrested. Ends
