POTCHEFSTROOM – On Friday, 13 September 2024, a warrant of arrest was obtained for a suspect wanted for attempted murder and business robbery, which were allegedly committed in Bedwang in March 2023. In the first case, a 55-year-old man was seriously injured after he was shot twice on his upper body in Zone 3, Lebotloane Village. He was taken to hospital where he was treated and released after recovery. In the second and last incident, a 25-year-old woman was behind the counter of the shop in Lebotloane Village, when suspects entered, pointed her with a firearm and robbed her of cash and energy drinks, before they fled the scene. With the assistance of Brits Crime Intelligence and Bedwang Detectives, the suspect was traced to a bus terminal at Mabopane on Monday, 16 September 2024. Raymond (Thokozani) Mokati, aged 30, was arrested. It was further established that he is linked with several cases of rape, reported between February 2018 and February 2021 in Rietgat, Olievenhoutbosch, Mmametlhake and Soshanguve in Gauteng Province as well as another business robbery reported in Bedwang. Mokati was remanded in custody upon appearance before the Temba Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 18 September 2024. He is expected to reappear before the same court on Friday, 4 October 2024. The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, commended the team for their diligence that led to the arrest of the wanted suspect. Ends
