WESTERN CAPE – Babalwa Mavis Rulwa-Mnantwana (52), sister-in-law of a murdered Vispol police officer has been re-arrested by the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team. The team has identified the wife as prime suspect in the murder of Sergeant Sithembiso Mnantwana, who was stationed at Cape Town Central police station. She was re-arrested on 20 September 2024. It is reported that on 8 September 2022 at 06:50, the Sergeant arrived home from work when gunshots were heard by members of the public. The police official was found laying on his back in front of his house in Samora Machel. He was shot multiple times in his back and one (1) bullet in his head. The police official was declared dead on the scene. The matter was immediately referred to the Hawks, and a massive hunt for the killers was launched. The sister-in-law was arrested on 27 September 2022 and the matter against her was provisionally withdrawn on the 24 October 2023. Her accomplice, accused no 2, Mihle Mngambi was arrested on 20 May 2024 and bail was successfully opposed. A J50 warrant of arrest was obtained for accused no 1, and the accused was re-arrested on 20 September 2024 and was subsequently released on R10 000 bail upon her appearance in court. The matter against Mnantwana is remanded to 25 September 2024 to appear alongside her co-accused. Ends
