Media Statement WESTERN CAPE – Police members in the Western Cape arrested seven suspects who were found in possession of unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition in isolated incidents on Friday 06 September 2024. Public Order Police members were conducting high density patrols and stop and searches in Gugulethu policing precinct when they stopped a suspicious vehicle in NY97 at about 20:30 and recovered a 9mm pistol with ammunition. They detained six suspects for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. Meanwhile Delft police members conducted patrols in Delft South when they responded to information, which led the members to Tsunami where they surprised the occupants. The members entered the identified address, searched the occupants which resulted in the confiscation of a firearm and different calibre ammunition. They arrested an adult male for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their court appearance in the Athlone and Bellville Magistrates’ courts on the mentioned charges.
