PARKWEG – Police reacted swiftly and arrested a suspect in connection with a recent incident of copper cable theft and damage to essential infrastructure. This arrest marks a significant step in addressing and combating the issue of vandalism and theft impacting our community. On 06 September 2024 at about 04:45, Captain Pieter Louw and Constable Godfrey Molefe reacted to information about someone who was busy in a tree cutting electricity cable at the corners of Victoria Road and Elrich Street in Willows, Bloemfontein. They reacted swiftly, but on their arrival, the perpetrator was already gone. They searched the area and found the 35-year-old suspect not far from the scene of the crime. When they searched him, they found about 50 meters of cable in his possession. The value of the cable is estimated to be R198 000. Centlec investigators identified the cable to be their property and an additional charge of damage to essential infrastructure was added to the docket under investigation. The estimated damage to the infrastructure amounts to R243 000. The suspect will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 09 September 2024.
