Two appear before court for alleged bank card cloning

SPRINGFONTEIN – Two males appeared before the Springfontein Magistrates’ Court facing fraud charges.

On Monday, 2 September 2024, a 68-year-old victim was about to withdraw money from the ATM in Springfontein. Two men arrived pretending to use the ATM and interfered with his transaction, thereby cloning his bank card. The victim lost an undisclosed amount of money. 

The victim then alerted the police and a case of fraud was opened against the two. The police responded swiftly, followed up on several leads and within hours apprehended the two suspects. They appeared in court on Thursday, 5 September 2024.

Their case was postponed to 12 September 2024 for further investigation. The possibility is being investigated that the suspects are linked to similar cases in Springfontein, Gariepdam and Trompsburg.
