Media Statement FRANKFORT – A little girl who was raped while out searching for her sister at the shebeen, finally received justice when her perpetrator was successfully prosecuted. On Sunday, 20 August 2023 at 06:00, the 16-year-old victim went to a nearby shebeen to look for her sister, who left with a house key. Upon arrival at the shebeen, she met a man named Prince. Prince told her that he knows where her sister is and asked her to accompany him to buy fat cakes. While on their way, Prince forced her to an abandoned building, assaulted and raped her. The victim managed to escape and informed her sister. The two confronted Prince, who was still at the shebeen, but he denied everything. Police were summoned and the suspect was arrested.
The case was taken over by Detective Sergeant Umlindelwa Mnguni of Mafube Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit. Through the guidance of Prosecutor Mrs Spangenberg, the 22-year-old suspect, Prince Moloi, was sentenced to 12 years for rape by the Frankfort Regional Court.
