NELSPRUIT – Operation Shanela has yielded positive results as members arrested a male suspect (30) for possession of unlicensed firearm with ammunition at London Trust next to a certain tavern in Bushbuckridge. According to information, the men and women in Blue were conducting stop and searches around Bushbuckridge Policing area when they noticed a group of people next to the said tavern. The members searched them and it was during this period when they found the firearm with 08 ammunition in one of the people that they searched. The man failed to produce a firearm licence hence he was apprehended and charged accordingly. The suspect is expected to appear at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 02 September 2024 facing the said charges. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has commended members for the arrest and recovery of the firearm with ammunition. The General further emphasized that the Police will continue to remove illegal firearms from the wrong hands. “We really making progress in terms of dealing decisively with proliferation of firearms which are often used in the commission of violent crimes and thanks to the members as they are doing their best hence this success, ” said the General.
