Media Statement KURUMAN – A Women in Law Enforcement parade, comprising of SAPS, Department of Home Affairs, Correctional Services, and Provincial Traffic, was on display at the Mothibistad Sports Grounds on Thursday 29 August 2024. The parade, under the command of Captain Yvonne Pebe, the Vispol Commander of Kathu SAPS, was led by the Provincial SAPS Band. The parade was exhibited in front of distinguished guests, including District Commissioners and Provincial Heads from SAPS, the SANDF, Correctional Services, Home Affairs, Provincial Traffic Department, and Community Policing Structures. The Provincial Head of Pro-Active Policing, Brigadier Irene Kopeledi, defined the purpose of the event was to appreciate women in law enforcement and the great strides they have made. She emphasised the importance of working together with society and standing together against GBVF. Messages of support were delivered by the Bothitong Junior Commissioner, Onkarabile Kgomonyane, Ms Mmbatho Esau from the Community Police Forum. Colonel L Gallant from the SANDF, Ms Kamies from Correctional Services, Ms H Mashiyane from Home Affairs and Ms O de Jongh from the Provincial Traffic Department. In her keynote address, Major General Monica Sebili, the ZF Mgcawu District Commissioner, urged all to take a stand and protect the most vulnerable in society. She acknowledged the contributions made by all women in law enforcement who squeeze the space for criminals to operate and encouraged the continued empowerment of women in the workplace. The John Taolo Gaetsewe District Commissioner, Major General Jonny Besnaar delivered the vote of thanks and led the National Anthem. The programme concluded with operational displays by female members from Highway Patrol, Flying Squad and Public Order Police. Balloons were then released in commemoration of victims of GBVF related crimes. Ends
