WESTERN CAPE – The Bluedowns Magistrates Court have on 23 August 2024 sentenced accused 1, Carmen Kolbee (47) and accused 2, Kensley Kolbee (46) to a collective 30 years direct imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances. Both accused were further declared unfit to possess firearm. Their sentencing follows after allegations that on 12 November 2014, three male suspects approached the employees of Standard Bank at Van Riebeeck Road, Kuilsriver. They kept the bank employees hostage at gunpoint while they waited for more employees to enter the bank. At that point it was reported that four of the cashiers’ safes were already accessed and an undisclosed amount of cash was robbed. The employees were robbed of their cellphones as well as the hard drive for the CCTV footage. The matter was probed by the Hawks’ National Priority Violent Crime team based in Bellville and it was established that the bank manager, Carmen Kolbee, and her husband, Kensley Kolbee, were involved. Other three suspects, who were allegedly involved in this robbery were subsequently arrested during 2016. The three accused, Ebrahim Isaacs (51), Samorien Hattas (49), Leroy Ackerman (42) have on February 2017 entered into a Section 105A plea agreement with the state and were sentenced. The Provincial Head of the Hawks in the Western Cape, Major General Makgato has welcomed the sentence and applauded the investigation and the prosecution team for this collaborative work. Ends
