Kaizer Chiefs have been unsuccessful in their pursuit of Fiston Mayele, but they may have found a younger alternative.
Kaizer Chiefs move on from Mayele, identify cheaper option
According to SoccerLaduma, Chiefs have shifted their attention to another Young Africans striker after their pursuit of Fiston Mayele has seemingly hit a dead end. The man in question is 20-year-old Tanzanian forward Clement Mzisi. Born in 2004, Mzisi has one cap for Tanzania which he earned in September 2023.
“The coach has made it clear that they need a striker and it seems they are not getting their main targets hence the change of focus to another striker. They are working around the clock to get Mayele or Orebonye but if they can’t then they are looking at Mzize. As I have told you before, what they are looking at is an outright striker because Christian Saile and Ashley Du Preez are more or less like wingers and only Ranga Chivaviro is an experienced outright striker. Then they are surrounded by youngsters,” said the Siya source.
“The team is aiming to fight for trophies and someone to score goals to win games and they think Mzize could help if they don’t get the other two. They have now made inquiries about his availability and things could turn around soon if they don’t get their priority targets. They are working behind closed doors to get him if all other efforts fail,” the source added.
“You know they want to loan out Saile. Du Preez could move to Portugal. So they need replacements for these strikers in case they move before the end of September. The club is looking at all possibilities and Clement Mzize is one of them at the moment who they think they could afford to bring in,” the second source observed.
Mayele and Tau are off the table
Nasreddine Nabi seems to have categorically ruled out approaches for Al Ahly wide attacker Percy Tau and Pyramids FC striker Fiston Mayele. The latter bagged 54 goals in two seasons under the tutelage of Nasreddine Nabi. Across all clubs, Mayele has 14 goals and four assists from 25 appearances in the Caf Champions League, Africa’s elite club competition.
“There are no negotiations with Percy Tau because I believe he still has one year left on his contract,” Nabi told OnTime Sports. “Kaizer Chiefs respects the FIFA rules. If ever there’s an opportunity to sign him, it will be through official channels. We respect Al Ahly, they are a great team.”
“It’s the same situation with Fiston Mayele. He’s like family to me; we worked well together [at Young Africans]. But he has a contract with Pyramids, and he’s not available. We respect that and have not engaged in any negotiations.”
