Media Statement MPUMALANGA – Pedrol Adriano Moiane(35), was found guilty and sentenced by the Barberton Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 20 August 2024 for participating in a conspiracy of two or more persons to conduct an activity intended to contravene the Immigration Act , Act 13 of 2002. The sentence followed after the accused was arrested on Friday, 08 August 2024 at about 20:00 at Kaapmuiden. The arrest followed after information was received from Crime Intelligence regarding two taxis, which were transporting undocumented people from Mozambique to Johannesburg in the Republic of South Africa. Kaapmuiden SAPS, Local Criminal Record Centre and Border Police, followed up on the information. The taxis were spotted, stopped and searched on the N4 next to Kaapmuiden, Mpumalanga. During the search, a total of sixteen (16) women, ten (10) toddlers, four (4) teenage girls, and fifteen (15) men were found without proper documentation. The suspects were charged and detained on allegations of kidnapping, aiding, abetting and contravention of Immigration Act, respectively. The accused appear before the Barberton Magistrates Court on several occasions. The case against the 16 Mozambican females was finalised on 13 August 2024. They were all found guilty for contravention of Immigration Act and were each sentenced to six months imprisonment or R2000.00 fine. The case against 15 Mozambican males was postponed to Tuesday, 20 August, and the accused were remanded in custody. Pedro Adriano Moiane, who was the driver in one of the taxi’s was found guilty and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment or R3000.00 fine. Ends
