WESTERN CAPE – Concerted efforts to rid communities of unlicensed firearms which threatens the safety of the public, resulted in the confiscation of three firearms in the Central Karoo and Garden Route districts. On Sunday, 18 August 2024 at about 18:40, Central Karoo Flying Squad members operationalised information on an unlicensed firearm when they descended on a house at Vygie Street, Beaufort West. A searched of the premises ensued during which the members found a firearm and ammunition in the ceiling. The members confiscated a 7,65 Norinco pistol with seven rounds of ammunition. The members arrested a 50-year-old woman on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. Furthermore, Knysna police members acted on information gathered during a complaint of a domestic violence dispute at Dolphin Avenue, Brenton on Lake in Knysna on Friday, 16 August 2024. The members found two firearms and 109 rounds of ammunition. They confiscated the items and arrested the 66-year-old occupant of the residence who was unable to provide a valid licence for his possession thereof. He is facing a charge of unlawful possession of firearm. The suspects will appear in the respective courts once charged. Western Cape police management lauded the members for their efforts which led to the confiscation of these items.
