The operations, which commenced on Thursday, 15 August 2024, entailed the tracing of wanted suspects, roadblocks, vehicle check points, stop and search operations as well as patrols in crime hotspots. On Thursday, investigators attached to the Da Gamaskop and Kwanonqaba Detectives in Mossel Bay conducted tracing operations. The collaborative effort led to the arrest of two suspects who were sought for crimes committed as far back as 2020. A 28-year-old man was arrested on charges of robbery with a firearm, theft, robbery and murder. They also arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with offences committed during 2022. He is facing charges of Assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), Possession of suspected stolen goods and Robbery. All these crimes were committed in Mossel Bay. Both suspects were remanded in custody. They were scheduled to appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrates’ court on Monday, 19 August 2024 on mentioned charges. Furthermore, police members deployed as part of the operation arrested 20 suspects for crimes committed during this period in the Garden Route District. Those arrested will appear in court once charged. Meanwhile, road safety in conjunction with traffic and law enforcement officers also yielded excellent results with 45 fines issued for traffic related offences with a total value of R55 360 during vehicle checkpoints and roadblocks, whilst a minibus taxi was also impounded in George. These road safety initiatives also focused on GBVF awareness with the distribution pamphlets during engagements with the public.
Garden Route District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana commended the members, especially the female officers who were part of the operation, which led to these arrest.
