Media Statement POLOKWANE – The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo participated in a crucial dialogue on gender-based violence (GBV) at Botlokwa TVET College, Ga-Ramokgopha Campus. The purpose of the event was raise awareness about GBV, promote healthy relationships, and encourage survivors to seek help. SAPS representatives, including Sergeant Maphure Manamela, Sergeant Mathudi Mokome, and Sergeant Masilo Modubi, joined experts, ambassadors, and sister departments for a panel discussion. The talks focused on GBV causes and consequences, consent, and support services for survivors. The event was well-coordinated by Sergeant Mokome, ensuring stakeholder support. SAPS emphasized its commitment to combating GBV and providing necessary support and justice for survivors. They shared information on accessing SAPS’s GBV support services, including the toll-free Crime Stop number (08600 10111), MySAPS App, and SAPS Gender-Based Violence Desks. Pamphlets containing information on the prevention of GBVF were also distributed. The following stakeholders attended: Government Department Communication and Information Department of Social Development Justice and Constitutional Development Education Department Correctional Services NGO (USAID), Capricorn District Municipality, Molemole Municipality, Community Policing Forum, and Young Civilians on Patrol, among others. Following the dialogue, Sergeant Manamela and Sergeant Mokome conducted a radio campaign at Botlokwa Community Radio, reinforcing the discussed issues. Sergeant Manamela urged victims to report perpetrators, regardless of their social standing, and called on stakeholders to support the police in combating crime. The SAPS’s participation demonstrates its ongoing efforts to engage with communities and promote a safer environment for women and children. By collaborating with educational institutions and stakeholders, the police service aims to prevent GBV and hold perpetrators accountable. Ends
