NELSPRUIT – The SAPS in Mpumalanga has taken a stand to clarify a matter that has recently been circulated on various social media platforms regarding an incident that took place at Vosman near Witbank on Sunday, 04 August 2024. In the incident, a 38-year-old woman was reportedly attacked and stabbed multiple times by her sister’s alleged partner, aged 42. Subsequent to the opening of a case of Assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, the SAPS members from Vosman Detectives immediately began investigating, leading to the arrest of the suspect on Wednesday, 07 August 2024. However, the case was struck off from the court roll, a matter which is a bone of contention. The SAPS did not abandon the matter but persistent with a hope to get justice served for the victim hence the Police collaborated and continued to work hand-in-hand with the Prosecution to address this pressing matter as soon as possible. Gender-Based Violence incidents are considered as serious and are not taken lightly by the state. Following the ongoing engagement between the SAPS and the Prosecution, the case is expected to be back on the court roll this week. Meanwhile the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has reassured members of the public that the SAPS will continue to adhere to the Code of Conduct, thereby ensuring that the men and women in blue remain committed to the creation of a safe and secure environment for all people, investigating criminal conduct which endangers the safety or security of the victims and bringing perpetrators thereof to justice. “The SAPS will always strive to support all victims of crime, including victims of Gender-Based-Violence, thereby ensuring that the vulnerable groups are protected from those who victimize them. We are in agreement with our colleagues from Prosecution regarding the matter at hand, and we have ensured that the best interest of the victim is put first. Justice will definitely be served for the victim, ” said the General. Ends
