9 August 2024 – SAFA Ekurhuleni, in collaboration with the Hollywood Foundation, on Friday, 09 August 2024, recognised several CAF C coaching license graduates at a ceremony held at SAFA House in Johannesburg.
To mark this year’s Women’s Day, the two organisations celebrated women’s contribution to South Africa’s progress in football. A group of 30 candidates – comprising of nine male and 21 female candidates, graduated as qualified coaches with CAF C Licenses.
The journey started in January (2024) when SAFA Ekurhuleni joined forces with the Hollywood Foundation to organise this historic CAF C License Coaching Course. The focus was to continue developing more female coaches in South Africa.
The objective aligns with SAFA’s goal of promoting female coaches and empowering them in a bid to boost football development among women.
Menzi Ngcobo, Senior Sponsorship Coordinator at Hollywoodbets, said, “Our partnership with SAFA is dedicated to elevating football in South Africa to the next level. To achieve this goal, grassroots development and the upliftment of women are pivotal.
The CAF C license programme is one of the numerous initiatives we have embarked on to achieve this objective.
Developing coaches is just as important as developing players, as we are creating a brains-trust that will strive to make South African football a formidable force both in Africa and globally. The recognition of this cohort of coaches is a giant step in this direction.”
During the graduation ceremony, SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao emphasised that it is crucial for women to embrace their God-given talents and take their rightful place in society instead of shying away from it.
“Several of you have ascended the football ladder and hold a critical responsibility in furthering women’s soccer for future generations,” she said.
Monyepao expressed gratitude to the Hollywood Foundation for their unwavering support of football. Hollywoodbets’ sponsorship of the Hollywoodbets Super League has been instrumental in shaping players’ growth on and off the field.
She expressed how glad they were for supporting educational development. “This partnership ensures that some of the brightest minds come together under one roof to play a pivotal role in development.
“In conclusion, I implore all the graduates and male coaches to utilise their certificates wisely. It is crucial that everyone takes part in football, especially women’s football, while striving towards obtaining B and A Licenses. This will lead to an increase of certified coaches in our country resulting in significant improvements within a few years’ time.
Congratulations to everyone! Keep pushing, working hard and finding new talent,” concluded Monyepao.
